The Shaxi Valley is located in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas, in the northwest of Yunnan (China). The population in the valley mainly belongs to the Bai ethnic group.
The Shuiluo Valley is located close to Tibet, in the southwest of Sichuan (China) at an altitude of 2000-6000 m. It is popultated by five different ethnic groups.
