The following pages give an overview of our ethnobotanical projects in the Himalayan foothills of southwest China. Both for the Shuiluo Valley, located in the Tibetan cultural area (Sichuan), and the Shaxi Valley (Yunnan), an introduction of the area, of the research and the development cooperation is given.

Ethnobotany investigates the interaction between plants and people and foremost among these the management of plant diversity by indigenous communities and the traditional use of medicinal plants.
